Product Overview

The VEB-12R-24 is a three-phase 50 Hz indoor vacuum circuit breaker rated 24 kV, built as a draw-out handcart unit for metal-enclosed switchgear, with a split frame also permitting fixed mounting. Currents of 630-1600 A pair with breaking ratings of 20-31.5 kA for protection in power plants, substations and mining networks, including frequent switching of important loads at altitude.

Model Designation

VEB-12R-24 Handcart Indoor High Voltage Vacuum Circuit Breaker - model

Model format: VEB-12R-24 / □ − □ (series designation VEB-12R, suffix 24 for the 24 kV version)

  • V — Vacuum circuit breaker
  • E — Indoor installation
  • B — Design sequence number
  • R — Draw-out (handcart) type
  • 24 — Rated voltage (kV)
  • First □ — Rated current (A)
  • Second □ — Rated short-circuit breaking current (kA)

Example: VEB-12R-24 / 1250 − 25 identifies a 24 kV handcart vacuum circuit breaker of 1250 A rated current with 25 kA rated short-circuit breaking current.

Service Conditions

  • Ambient temperature: −40 °C to +40 °C
  • Altitude: not exceeding 1000 m (above this level the rated insulation level is raised accordingly)
  • Relative humidity: daily average ≤ 95%, monthly average ≤ 90%
  • Seismic intensity: not exceeding degree 8
  • Site free from fire, explosion hazard, serious pollution, chemical corrosion and violent vibration

Construction

Each phase carries a sealed vacuum interrupter in which the arc is extinguished, giving long electrical endurance without fire or explosion risk and without periodic medium maintenance. The standard spring energy-storage mechanism closes from stored energy after charging from AC or DC 220 / 110 V or by manual handle, and an optional permanent-magnet mechanism extends mechanical life to 60000 operations for extremely frequent duty.

The front-to-back split frame is assembled onto a chassis as a center-mounted racked unit that moves between connected, test and disconnected positions, or is used as a fixed mounting unit. Primary current passes through static contacts or cable lugs, secondary circuits reach the control and protection loops via the terminal block, and frame and mechanism are earthed through the dedicated earthing provision.

Standards

The breaker is designed and type-tested to GB/T 1984 for AC high-voltage circuit breakers and to IEC 62271-100, with manufacturing and inspection carried out according to DL/T 403 for indoor high-voltage vacuum circuit breakers of 3.6 kV to 40.5 kV.

Technical note: parameters outside the published tables follow the technical agreement; binding values are those on the nameplate and in the approved specification for the order.

Installation & Dimensions

Installation Diagram

VEB-12R-24 Handcart Indoor High Voltage Vacuum Circuit Breaker - installation

The unit is supplied either as a racked center-mounted handcart breaker for metal-enclosed switchgear or as a fixed mounting unit using the split frame. Racked units travel between connected, test and disconnected positions for safe isolation; before commissioning, confirm nameplate ratings against the panel duty and earth the frame and mechanism reliably.

Safety notice: installation, operation and maintenance are reserved for qualified personnel. Before energising, verify type, rated voltage, rated current and breaking rating against nameplate and terminal markings; during service keep the breaker open, earthed and de-energised for work. Never commission a unit with a lost-vacuum interrupter, and never bypass the mechanical interlocks.

FAQs

In the series code V stands for vacuum circuit breaker, E for indoor use, B for the design sequence number and R for the draw-out handcart type; 24 gives the rated voltage in kV, while the two following boxes set the rated current in amperes and the rated short-circuit breaking current in kiloamperes.

The standard fitment is a spring energy-storage mechanism charged from AC or DC 220 / 110 V or by manual handle, giving stored-energy closing with full interlocking. For extremely frequent switching duty a long-life permanent-magnet mechanism can be specified instead.

With the standard spring mechanism the breaker achieves 20000 mechanical operations. When the optional permanent-magnet mechanism is specified, mechanical life extends to 60000 operations, covering very frequent switching schedules.

Both arrangements are covered: the front-to-back split structure allows the breaker to be chassis-mounted as a center-set draw-out unit that racks to a disconnected position for isolation, or to be installed as a fixed mounting unit within the panel.

Calculate the prospective three-phase short-circuit current at the switching point and choose the 20, 25 or 31.5 kA rating that covers it, then confirm that the associated making currents of 50 / 63 / 80 kA and the 4 s short-time withstand rating are also satisfied.

State the rated voltage, rated current, rated short-circuit breaking current and short-time duration, the mechanism type (spring or permanent-magnet), the switchgear cubicle width, whether a racked or fixed unit is required, and any special service conditions.
