Product Overview

The VZF-12R is a 12 kV three-phase 50 Hz indoor vacuum load break switch and switch-fuse combination unit, centre-mounted with solid epoxy embedded poles for armoured metal-enclosed switchgear. The switch makes, carries and breaks load current (630 A, 20 kA short-time); in the combination unit the back-up fuse clears faults up to 50 kA, with 3150 A rated transfer current.

Construction

The three switch poles are encapsulated in epoxy resin by APG casting, forming a compact centre-mounted unit that is insensitive to dust and moisture and needs no special maintenance of the live parts. Load current is interrupted in sealed vacuum interrupters driven by a spring energy-storage mechanism (T) that provides stored-energy closing and opening with defined closed, open and earthed positions.

In the combination version the high-voltage fuses sit in dedicated compartments above the switch poles and are mechanically coupled to them: a fuse striker releases the trip of the associated switch pole so that all three phases open on single-phase fuse operation. The 3150 A rated transfer current coordinates the duty handover between switch and fuse, and interlocks prevent unsafe operation of the switch-fuse set.

Standards

The load break switch is designed and tested to GB 3804 for AC high-voltage load switches, and the switch-fuse combination unit to GB 16926 for AC high-voltage load switch – fuse combination units.

Standards note: routine-test records are issued with every unit; type-test reports against GB 3804 or GB 16926 for a specific configuration are available on request.

Installation & Dimensions

Installation Diagram

VZF-12R Indoor Vacuum Load Break Switch Fuse Combination Unit - installation

The epoxy embedded-pole unit bolts to the cubicle frame on its base rails; primary terminals connect to busbar or cable lugs and fuses, where fitted, insert into the compartments above the switch poles. The secondary loop (spring motor, auxiliary and anti-pumping contacts, fuse-striker trip) wires to the cubicle terminal block, and earth-switch and mechanism interlocks must be proved before commissioning.

Safety notice: only qualified personnel may install, operate or maintain the unit. Verify type, rated voltage, rated current and fuse rating against the nameplate before energising; de-energise, isolate and earth before maintenance, never use the stand-alone switch to interrupt short-circuit current, and never bypass the switch-fuse or door interlocks.

FAQs

VZF identifies a vacuum load break switch, 12 is the rated voltage in kV and R marks the fuse-equipped combination version; T denotes the spring operating mechanism. The following fields give rated current, rated short-circuit breaking current, control-voltage category and pole / phase spacing, so VZF12/T630-20 is the 630 A load switch and VZF-12/T125-50 the 125 A fuse combination unit.

The load break switch makes and breaks normal load current and provides isolation, while short-circuit faults are cleared by the back-up fuse of the combination unit. A circuit breaker interrupts both load and fault currents with its own mechanism. The switch-fuse combination is the economical choice for transformer feeders; a breaker suits repeated fault interruption.

The rated transfer current of 3150 A defines the range over which fault duty is handed over from the switch to the fuse so that the fuse clears the fault. It guarantees correct phase-by-phase interruption during the switch-fuse operating time without exceeding the switching capability of the load break switch.

In the 12 kV class the unit withstands 42 kV for one minute at power frequency and 75 kV lightning impulse, both phase-to-phase and phase-to-earth, with partial discharge not exceeding 5 pC.

Ambient temperature from -40 to +40 degC, altitude up to 1500 m, relative humidity daily average up to 95% and monthly average up to 90%, seismic intensity up to degree 8, and an atmosphere free from dripping water, fire, explosion hazard, corrosive gas and violent vibration.

State the configuration (load switch or switch-fuse combination), rated voltage, rated current or fuse rating, control and operating voltage category, required pole and phase spacing, the prospective fault level for transfer-current coordination, and any special service conditions.
